Behind the Design with Samantha Bartlett Interiors

We are delighted to have collaborated with Samantha Bartlett Interiors on a beautiful bespoke mirror for the Martin Moore Kitchen at this year’s WOW!house.
Designed to create a window-like backdrop to the room, it is based on our Curzon Mirror and features Crittal-esque antique brass details. Positioned at the far end of the kitchen, it reflects the rich tones and textures within the scheme whilst also cleverly giving the impression of space beyond the room itself.
Here, Samantha shares the inspiration and ideas behind the stunning family kitchen she has created with the team at Martin Moore.

What was the concept for your kitchen scheme?
As a studio, we work from the fundamentals of a property's interior heritage, its location and its surroundings. With this in mind, we wanted to give the house a strong sense of belonging and architectural identity. To achieve this, we introduced Art Deco influences through the ceiling design and bespoke full-height external doors, creating the impression of a carefully considered refurbishment project where the kitchen feels intrinsically connected to the architecture of the home.
We then considered the end user. What better way to demonstrate the versatility of a kitchen than through a family home? This approach allows us to showcase how the space can be enjoyed by all ages, adapting effortlessly to the changing demands of everyday life.

Tell us about some of the materials and finishes you have used.
The materials used throughout have been inspired by nature, with a strong emphasis on materiality and tactility. A particular highlight is the beautiful quartzite I selected; its rich green hues, natural veining and leathered finish create a captivating focal point that invites touch and interaction.
To add further dimensions to the experience of the room, we incorporated the Lily of the Valley home scent by Jo Malone London, alongside a carefully considered lighting and audio scheme by Homeplay: the newly launched Ketra by Lutron system.
Why did you choose Simpsons for the window design?
The mirror is a key component to the design of the kitchen and the ethos behind it. Having worked with Simpsons over many years I knew you could help – you've captured every detail beautifully.
The crittal-style window mirror is based on our Curzon mirror. What is it about that style that made it the right choice here?
The Curzon best captured the illusion of a window profile.

You’ve chosen some Little Simpsons pieces to style the space. What do accessories like these bring to a room?
The Little Simpsons accessories add a further layer to the design. They help capture the story and make the kitchen feel like home.
